About Pencycuron:studies on the properties on action of three fungicides against rice sheath blight (Pellicularia Sasakii)

BY: Li Shuzheng Zhang Suhua (The Research Institute of Elemento-Organic Chemistry, Nankai University)
Three fungicides Pencycuron, Moncut and Mepronil were tested to determine their biological responses. Bioassey showed that the hyphae growth and sclerotia germination were inhibited seriously by all these fungicides. The toxicity order was Pencycuron≈MoncutMepronil. Sclerotia were less sensitive to the fungicides than hyphae and the EC_(50) of hyphae was about 25 times as much as Sclerotia. The morphological abnormalities were observed in the hyphae branches after treated with Pencycuron, The hyphae were extremely bent and the amounts of hyphae branches were increased. A little Sclerotia were formed in the exterior inhibited mycelium mat. In the range of 2.5-50 ppm, fungicidal action was induced by Pencycuron, but fungistatic action by Mepronil, and for Moncut, the concentration for fungicidat action was within 5-50ppm, at 2.5 ppm, it could induce fungistatic action. The order of the tested fungicides for inhibiting infection was as following: Pencycuron≈MoncutMepronil, and for inhibiting the lesion development, MoncutPencycuron≈Mepronil. Stability to ultraviolet was MoncutPencycuronMepronil. In the glasshouse test, the persistency of Pencycuron and Moncut lasted for more than 35 days, and Mepronil, 24 days
