About Pencycuron: Evaluation for duration of fungicidal effect in rice sheath blight

BY: Kim, C.H.; Kim, C.K. (Rural Development Administration, Suwon (Korea R.). Agricultural Sciences Inst.)
Three leading fungicides currently used for the control of rice sheath blight were compared for their fungicidal duration under greenhouse conditions. Development of sheath blight on the susceptible rice cultivar Jinheung previously sprayed with each fungicide was monitored with treatments lagging inoculation date of sheath blight fungus ranging from 1 to 30 days after fungicidal applications. The fungicidal duration differed greatly with fungicides tested. When the duration was judged qualitatively based on the inoculation date resulting in the first successful lesion development from the date of fungicide application, the longest duration was observed for Pencycuron 1000x treatment with at least 21 days followed by Pencycuron 2000x with at least 15 days. The treatment of Validamycin 700x had the shortest with less than 3 days. Neoasozin 1500x treatment was intermediate between Pencycuron and Validamycin. When the duration was quantitatively assessed based on both lesion size and number of plants with developing lesion0842 that were compared to the untreated check, teatments of  Pencycuron 1000x and 2000x and Neoasozin had more than 30 days of duration but differed in degree of remaining fungicidal effect with the order of Pencycuron 1000x, Pencycuron 2000x and Neoasozin from the greatest to the least. Validamycin treatment showed less than 15 days of dura
